iPhone top speaker not working
The top speaker on your iPhone is called the earpiece and it is responsible for hearing sound when you’re on phone calls. And if your speaker has stopped working, muffled or crackly there can be several reasons why it won’t be working it could be a motherboard issue, dust or just a broken speaker in general.

Make sure your volume is turned up all the way
I thought you try anything else although this might sound extremely simple it is always a good idea to check because I have done countless times and I thought “oh no my speaker is broken time to pull out the repair kit” and turns out to just be the volume and I’ve just got it turned all the way down because I turned it on silent or I’ve just turned it down for whatever reason.
Clean the speaker
Clean your top speaker with a brush of some sort you can either use an old toothbrush or a new one. Or you can just wipe it with a dry cloth If there’s any dust clogged up in there that will get rid of it it. If that does fix it you will be able to tell straight away because it will sound less muffled and completely clear again.
Also sometimes the microphone can affect the top speaker so it might be worth cleaning the little hole on the back if you have an iPhone 8 and above but if you have an iPhone 7 and below you can clean the holes at the bottom of your phone near the charging port as well as the small hole on the back of the phone near the flash and back camera.
Reset to factory settings
If the above options have not worked out for you then the next step would be to completely reset the phone to factory settings don’t worry you won’t lose any of your data If you back it up on your computer on iTunes or iCloud. This should fix any software issues you’re having with the speaker because sometimes it can just be a software glitch that just needs to be reset to fix the problem.

Make sure noise cancellation is off
Now, this is a great little feature that can cancel out background noise on your phone but can also cause problems, for example, completely cutting out the sound of your earpiece so if you have issues it might be best just to turn it off and see if this fixes your problem.

Get the earpiece replaced – iPhone top speaker not working (SOLVED)
If all of the above steps have failed and you’ve tried every option and you can’t fix it your self. It’s time to get the earpiece speaker replaced on your iPhone depending on what phone you have it will be relatively cheap, they should not cost more than £40. Older the phone you have the cheaper it will be.
